The most dangerous city in the U.S. is St. Louis;
New York City comes in safe at 269th

Move over, Camden, N.J. St. Louis is now the most crime-ridden city in the U.S.

Missouri's troubled metropolis has been dubbed the most dangerous city in America, according to a study published by CQ Press. The study utilized data from FBI statistics for murder, rape, aggravated assault, burglary and motor vehicle theft for 2009.

New York City came in a distant 269th place, way behind other big U.S. cities, including Houston, Miami, Los Angeles, Washington and Boston.

Michigan had two cities in the top five most crime-ridden: Detroit and Flint. California took the five and six spot with Oakland and Richmond.

New York State had the safest city in the U.S.: Colonie, a suburb of Albany, earned bragging rights for having the least amount of crime. Three other locales in the Empire State were also in the top 15 safest cities.
